This album brought with it a change in the sound of the band, as it was much more guitar-oriented and equipped with more compact keyboard melodies.
"Where Hope and Daylight Die" was sung by Tania Borsky, ex-girlfriend of Protector and a former member of the Die verbannten Kinder Evas
The cover of the album was adapted by "The Bard", a 1817 painting by John Martin.
This album is the first of Summoning, on which audio clips were also used. The clips used came from the films Braveheart and Legend.
Stronghold is also the first album on which not all lyrics by J. R. R. Tolkien have been derived.
