Abominablood - Darkness in Planetary Transmutation CD
After a whole string of demos, EP’s, splits, compilations and a full-length album, Argentina’s Abominablood have reached its second album. Although the band has gone through a modest bit of changes musically, the biggest difference over its 15+ years of existence is that Luciano “Warpig Venomous Abominator” Cortez is now alone at the helm of Abominablood. Yet, while it is fair to conclude that over time the band’s musical formula has been quite consistent, ‘Darkness In Planetary Transmutation’ is definitely the band’s most crushing work to day – sound-wise at least.
This latest piece of work clocks in just under half an hour, but presents a unrelenting and unforgiving vortex of sonic violence which has no equal within the band’s discography. Although this album too is built out of the more or less standard cornerstones of the (Bestial) Black/Death Metal genre, it is the thundering and massive production that adds mercilessly to the aggressive nature of the music. The production sounds both muddy and dark, but has enough space for especially the vocals to find its vital place in the murderous mix.
This way it kind of fits in as a missing link between the more textbook Bestial Black/Death Metal and dark sounding contemporary Death Metal. In doing so, it finds its peers in bands like Impetuous Ritual, Genocidal Shrines, Antediluvian, Abyssal, Ignivomous and Teitanblood. Its devastating and brooding atmosphere definitely fits within those ranks and, frankly, Abominablood holds up quite well amongst those chaos-ridden and overall savage sounding genre giants!
